Wheels to Wings

Wheels to Wings
Wheels to Wings is a flight training program for people with physical disabilities that provides a new and unique way for the disabled to challenge themselves and gives them the opportunity to gain greater self-control and self-reliance.

Why Learn to fly?
“Flying takes you to a different world with new perspectives. You start thinking of your world from above and your senses are in tune to the world of flight. You are no longer limited by your cares, concerns and duties on the ground. Flying will allow you to conquer new exciting challenges. It changes how you perceive yourself and what you know you can accomplish. Become a pilot and become transformed!” -The Experimental Aviation Association Sport Pilot License

The sport pilot certification, the first level of pilot licensure, was created by the FAA in 2004 with the hopes that it would make flying more accessible and more affordable. With the “driver’s license medical” associated with a sport pilot license, a disabled person doesn’t need to go through the extensive medical testing and waivers associated with the private pilot license.

Northampton Airport’s Light Sport aircraft, Flight Design CTLS, has a large cabin. Its extra wide cabin doors and 2 way adjustable seats make for easy entrance and comfortable experience. The ergonomic arrangement of the controls and instruments, plus the CTLS terrific visibility makes learning to fly more relaxing and fun! Flight Design Technik (technik@flightdesign.com) is currently making custom parts for a hands-only control of the CT, making the aircraft adaptable for people who don’t have use of their legs.

We schedule training days based on interest, please contact us for more information.
